Exploring Landlords' Relationships with Young Renters in East London

This qualitative study interviewed six London-based landlords about their experiences renting to young people, exploring how they became landlords, their use of letting agents, their relationships with tenants, and how they set rent. Landlords generally fell into the role by chance rather than design, preferred to manage tenancies directly without agents, and described broadly positive relationships with young renters. Rent was typically set at or below market rate, with more experienced landlords charging less to reduce tenant turnover and avoid costly void periods.
